RC Blog March 2025

March is Women’s History Month – a time to honor the trailblazing women
who have shaped our world and continue to push boundaries. Women have
long been at the forefront of change, driving progress in business, politics,
science, and beyond. Today, they are not only breaking barriers but
redefining what leadership looks like.
The numbers tell a powerful story: Women make up 47% of the U.S.
workforce, and closing gender gaps could add $2.1 trillion to the economy
(McKinsey & Company). Women-owned businesses generate $1.8 trillion
annually, growing by 114% over the past two decades (American Express).
Additionally, women-founded startups deliver twice the revenue per dollar
invested compared to those founded by men (Boston Consulting Group).
When women rise, industries thrive, innovation accelerates, and economies
flourish.

As someone who started her career under the leadership of two iconic Texas
political women leaders – Governor Ann Richards and Senator Kay Bailey
Hutchison – I’ve seen firsthand the power of strong female leadership. When
I worked for Kay I met a woman in government named Donna Reynolds who
changed the trajectory of my life in public service forever. Boldness,
resilience, and commitment to service were qualities demonstrated to me
while working for Donna that shaped my own path, and I carry her leadership
lessons with me to this day. Now, as a business owner and mentor, I am
committed to paying it forward and lifting up the next generation of
trailblazers.
Women in Business: Building a Legacy
Women-owned businesses continue to transform the American economy. As
of 2024, over 14 million businesses are women-owned, accounting for nearly
40% of all firms. These businesses employ approximately 12.2 million
workers and generate $2.7 trillion in revenue annually (U.S. Small Business
Administration). The rise of female entrepreneurship highlights the growing
economic influence of women, as more women-led companies emerge in
industries once dominated by men.
Beyond business ownership, women influence up to 85% of consumer
purchasing decisions and drive an estimated $10 trillion in annual consumer
spending (Forbes). Their impact is undeniable. When women have the
opportunity to lead, they not only change their own trajectories but also
uplift families, communities, and economies.
